View Full Version : Ugh, off to the shop

I had the best hopes but it looks like I'm draggin the boat off to the shop.

It warmed enough today to get out & play with the outboard. It was running like crap last time out so I've had it in the driveway for a month waiting for it to warm up a little.

Turns out to be a carburation problem. Fuel was spilling out of the top carb throat (inline 4) & running down the airbox backing plate. I sprayed Power Tune & got carbon freed but no help to the root problem. The poor thing sounds like a popcorn machine

Hopefully it's a short & non bank-breaking shop visit but I'm anticipating the worst. B-O-A-T: Better Off At Tiffany's :eyes:

Thanks Chuck, pretty sure all will be OK. Got a $550 quote for the work, decided to do it myself. Got the carbs off in about an hour. Had to pull 2 studs out of the manifold to do it with the powerhead installed.

Hoping the pan can come off so I'll have more clearance for reassembly. I'm betting the top carb is the main culprit, float is probably stuck down. I'll tear all 4 apart & get them scrubbed up real good. From what I hear, I'll probably use the Quicksilver kits as I've heard the Sierra & Mallory kits can be poor quality or have missing parts.
