Saturday's Jelly Jar on Conroe
Well I finally got off my butt & got out on the water last Saturday. The arm was feeling better so I thought I'd join the club for a little jelly jar. We decided on a 3 fish limit & launch out of Stow Away marina.
The weather was kinda nasty with the cold front that was pushing through. It was misting all morning & the wind was blowing pretty good most the day. The temps were real nice though, starting out in the upper 60's & finishing out in the low 80's. Water temps were hovering around the mid 80's, 83 in some spots, 88 in others.
My partner & I decided to hang around the marina area, which might not have been the best idea, and the fish were far & few in between. The first fish, caught on a 1/2oz black/blue jig with a Hag's Undertaker Jr. trailer in pumpkin, was a dink and it didn't come early. I thought I had zeroed in on bluegill being the forage of the day, but that was the only fish boated on that pattern and my only fish of the day. On one spot I had a good strike but I laid into a stump & the shock went up my bad arm & cause me to drop my rod in the water. Fortunately it wasn't very deep & we were able to find it. My partner drug a crank bait over the area where we figured the line was & up came my rod & new Lew's BB1! Late in the day my partner started chunkin a smallish Lucky Strike square bill & picked of a 3.46 and 2 more shorts after that. Guess we found the pattern too late in the day, only an hour left...
Some of the other guys did pretty good with limits of 3+ lb average, big bass went close to 4#.
All in all it was a good day. Getting out on the water, talking smack with the guys & enjoying the outdoors sure beats working! My healing arm held up for the most part too which made me smile
